10/21/13

1)  The boys slept in their bed for the first full night in a LOOOOOONG time last night.  I had to get up about 75 times to walk P back to his bed, but I don't care - it was worth just to get to sprawl out every time I got back in bed.  I know I just have to stick to it and it will get better.
2)  I made an appt. with a sleep specialist for L.  One good thing that has come out of sleeping with the boys is I ended up beside Landon the other night and he woke me up twice, gasping for breath.  He and Peyton both had sleep apnea as preemies, which is why they were sent home on heart monitors (we were told this is common in preemies).  We saw a sleep specialist and after about a month he was released, with the dr. saying he had grown out of it b/c his monitor wasn't showing a pattern of episodes.  Well, apparently he is having problems again and the scary thing is I have no idea this has been going on.  Again, sleep apnea in children appears to be fairly common but it's still super scary when you hear your child gasping for breath.  The pediatrician told me L probaby has allergies and that's why he snores.  His allergies have probably caused his tonsils and adenoids to swell, which causes his airways to obstruct.  This can cause night-waking (he still bangs his head at night) and ADHD/behavior problems.  So, the next step is to see the sleep specialist and possible do an overnight sleep study.  Our appt. is on Nov. 7th with Dr. Wise, the same dr. we saw when L was a preemie.  He'll probably take a look at P too, just as a precaution since he had apnea as a preemie as well.
3)  P is such a manipulator - I said "P, Mommy bought you Capri Suns for your lunch!"  He said "hmmmm I better try one out tonight to see how it tastes."  I said, "You're silly - you now how they taste - you love them."  He said, "If you don't let me taste one I'm gonna sleep in your bed tonight."  Deal.  The kid got the Capri Sun.
