Lessons from a new mom

* I could in fact be a stay-at-home mom
* I now understand what "poop up the back" means
* Skipping a bath grosses me out - I do it every once in a while, but I really hate it!
* No sitter will ever be good enough
* Vaseline is a cure-all
* I'd rather have a baby with diarrhea than constipation
* The first 2 months are the hardest
* The first 6 months are not near as fun as months 6-12
* Development is, in fact, like a lightswitch - one day they won't be doing something, the next day they will!
* Cereal or goldfish is ok if you're having a bad day and that's all your child wants for dinner
* There IS a such thing as over-feeding
* As soon as they learn to move they will no longer want to be cuddled.....I thought I had a long time to go before this happened, but I'm there already :(
* There is a fine line between being on a strict schedule and letting your baby dictate your day
* You can't be scared to go to dinner or to a friends' house w/a baby. You'll never go anywhere if you are.
* There is no such thing as a lazy mother of twins. She might be other things, but just feeding and diapering alone is hard work.
* If you let your baby gnaw on your hand like a puppy, they will think it's hilarious when they bite you w/their big teeth!
* A quick kiss goodnight and a bedtime prayer is all they need - rocking, soothing, pacis, etc. are for weaklings! :)
* I will never understand co-sleeping. I get no sleep when the boys are sick or it is storming and they are in bed with us.
* Take advice w/a grain of salt - some things you will use, some things you won't. Don't ever believe someone when they say "you'll never ____" (go on a date again, lose your baby weight, keep their baby book updated, take enough pictures, read a book, watch a movie, etc.) It may not be done the same way you did it before kids, but it's up to you whether or not it gets done at all.
Also be careful to say "I'll never ____" You may not, but then again you just might if you're desperate enough! This inspires me to do another post - things I said I'll never do that I went back on and things I said I'd never do that I kept!
